PAK vs BAN: Pakistan’s Hussain Talat hospitalised during 2nd ODI — what we know so far

Dhaka, Friday: Pakistan all-rounder Hussain Talat was stretchered off and taken to hospital after a heavy fall on the boundary left him clutching his left shoulder during the second One-Day International against Bangladesh at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
The incident unfolded in the sixth over of the home side’s chase. Litton Das drove Mohammad Wasim Jr firmly through the off-side and Talat, sprinting around the deep-cover rope, managed to flick the ball back inside. As he planted his foot on the foam padding that lines the boundary edge, Talat lost balance and crashed into the advertising boards, landing awkwardly on his shoulder. He remained motionless for several moments before team-mates and medical staff converged on the scene. A stretcher was summoned and the 28-year-old was driven straight to a nearby hospital for scans.
The Pakistan Cricket Board later confirmed the initial diagnosis. “Talat received immediate medical attention from the team’s medical staff on the field. Following the initial assessment, he has been taken to a hospital for a detailed examination. The nature and extent of the injury will be determined after the doctors complete further medical evaluation,” the PCB said in a brief statement.
Play was held up for almost ten minutes while medics stabilised Talat, casting a pall over a contest that had already swung Pakistan’s way. Asked to bat first, the visitors were bowled out for 274 in 47.3 overs, Maaz Sadaqat top-scoring with a 75-ball 75 and Salman Agha adding 64. Mohammad Rizwan’s brisk 44 provided late impetus before the innings folded.
Bangladesh’s reply began disastrously. Shaheen Afridi removed both openers inside the first three overs and Wasim Jr accounted for Das to leave the Tigers reeling at 27 for 3. Rain then swept across the ground, forcing players off with Bangladesh still 248 runs adrift of their revised target. Officials will assess conditions on Saturday morning to determine the resumption time, but the immediate focus inside the Pakistan camp remains on Talat’s fitness.
Shoulder injuries can range from bruising and joint sprains to dislocations or rotator-cuff damage; the PCB has not yet placed a timeframe on his recovery. Talat’s absence would rob Pakistan of a versatile middle-order option and a useful sixth-bowling choice with the series delicately poised after the opening match was washed out.
For now, team management and fans await the hospital’s full report while the second ODI itself hangs in limbo, its outcome secondary to concerns over one of Pakistan’s most industrious all-rounders.
