Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park: Man United duo receive fantastic England news

Manchester United pair Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park have earned England call-ups after driving their club to second place in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Le Tissier, United’s captain, has been the bedrock of a defence that has the Red Devils one point above Chelsea and eight behind leaders Manchester City. Head coach Marc Skinner has repeatedly praised the 22-year-old’s leadership and consistency, highlighting her ability to marshal any defensive partner alongside her.

Park, signed from Manchester City in the summer, has wasted no time establishing herself as United’s primary creative threat. In 16 WSL appearances she has six goals and four assists, stepping up even after strike-partner Ella Toone was sidelined by injury. The 23-year-old’s form has been rewarded with back-to-back United Player of the Month accolades and the league’s monthly honour, performances that have now caught the eye of England manager Sarina Wiegman.

Wiegman named both players in her 25-player squad for the opening qualifiers of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, to be staged in Brazil. The Lionesses open their campaign against Ukraine at Antalya’s Mardan Sports Complex on Tuesday, 3 March, before returning home to face Iceland four days later.

Le Tissier joins an experienced defensive group that includes Lucy Bronze, Jess Carter, Grace Fisk, Alex Greenwood, Lotte Wubben-Moy, Esme Morgan, Taylor Hinds, Poppy Pattinson and Leah Williamson. Park will compete for a starting berth among seven forwards, with Chloe Kelly, Lauren James, Aggie Beever-Jones, Alessia Russo, Lauren Hemp and Freya Godfrey also vying for places.

United’s next assignment is Thursday’s decisive Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Atlético Madrid, where progression could add another layer of momentum to the duo’s international ambitions.
