Tottenham inserted a buy-back clause understood to value the player at around £61m, a figure that now looks conservative given the scramble for his signature.

Scouts from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Liverpool have all filed glowing reports after watching Vuskovic dominate in the Bundesliga this season. Madrid insiders have labelled him “generational”, while Barcelona analysts have highlighted his “elite” ball-carrying skills for a defender of his stature.

Liverpool’s interest forms part of a wider defensive overhaul designed to secure the back line for the next decade. The club has already committed £88m to centre-backs Giovanni Leoni (£26m, Parma) and Jeremy Jacquet (£62m, Rennes), both signed with long-term plans in mind despite injury setbacks.
