Hansi Flick speaks out on Ferran Torres’s struggles at Barcelona
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has acknowledged that Ferran Torres is enduring a difficult spell and has vowed to guide the Spain international back to form. The 26-year-old forward has registered 16 goals across all competitions this season but has drawn a blank in his last eight appearances for the Catalan club.
Torres was withdrawn after 62 minutes of Saturday’s La Liga victory over Athletic Club at San Mamés, a decision Flick explained was rooted in the player’s current lack of confidence. “A number 9 is judged by his goals,” Flick told reporters. “He lacks confidence right now, but we are working on it. It’s important to try everything in matches; he’s in a good dynamic, he’s fast, and right now he’s just having a bit of bad luck, we have to help him.”
With Robert Lewandowski returning from an eye fracture and featuring as a substitute against Athletic, Torres could find himself on the bench for Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with Newcastle. Flick emphasized that the coaching staff will continue to support the forward as he seeks to recapture his scoring touch.
