Sixth-tier Macclesfield etched their name into FA Cup folklore by dethroning holders Crystal Palace in what is already being labelled the greatest upset in the tournament’s history, while Wrexham kept their Hollywood script rolling with a dramatic penalty-shoot-out triumph over Championship high-fliers Nottingham Forest.

Premier League heavyweights entered the fray in round three, and while Arsenal and Manchester City piled on the goals to cruise into the last 32, two members of the traditional “big six” will play no further part.
