Everton Eye England Star As Scout Drops Significant Transfer Hint: Could He Be The Answer For The Toffees?

Everton have placed the search for a new left-back at the very summit of their summer agenda, and the name now dominating internal discussions is 19-year-old Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly. Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown revealed that the Merseyside club are prepared to move decisively if a deal for the England international becomes viable.
“Everton is looking for a new left-back as a priority,” Brown said. “If the opportunity comes up to sign an England international, they will go for it.”
The Toffees’ urgency is easy to understand. David Moyes has been forced to field centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite out of position for much of the campaign, a stop-gap that neither the player nor the manager views as a long-term solution. With competition from several other Premier League sides also circling, Everton’s need is the most acute.
Lewis-Skelly’s stock soared last season when he registered 39 appearances, scored a highlight-reel goal in Arsenal’s 5-1 demolition of Manchester City and earned a first senior England cap. Yet the 2025-26 campaign has brought a dramatic reversal: only 312 Premier League minutes, a 6.41 FotMob average rating and no league outing since January’s visit of Liverpool. The January arrival of Piero Hincapié has further shunted the teenager down the Emirates pecking order.
Brown admits the downturn is puzzling. “He came into the Arsenal team with such a high profile; everybody was talking about him. But for some reason that’s all stopped this season and he’s almost disappeared. Whether Arteta feels he has better options now or there’s something behind the scenes, it’s not clear.”
What is clear is Lewis-Skelly’s raw toolkit: blistering pace, intelligent pressing, composure in possession and a natural left foot tailor-made for the modern overlapping full-back role. Discipline remains a work in progress—three yellow cards already this term after two reds last year—but Moyes has a proven track record of harnessing young English talent with a point to prove.
Financially, the path is less straightforward. Transfermarkt lists the player at €40 million, a sizeable outlay for a club still navigating Profitability and Sustainability constraints. A loan with an option to buy is viewed within Goodison corridors as the most realistic avenue, allowing Everton to test the waters while Arsenal create space in a congested squad.
Lewis-Skelly is under contract at Arsenal until 2030, but sources close to the player expect him to seek guaranteed minutes ahead of a pivotal stage in his development. With Everton’s left-back cupboard bare and Moyes ready to gamble on upside, the stars may be aligning for a marriage of convenience that both parties urgently need.
Everton will open formal due-diligence talks when the window commences, and all indicators suggest Lewis-Skelly will be allowed to leave north London this summer. If the Toffees can structure a palatable deal, the England teenager could swiftly transform from forgotten Gunner to Goodison Park solution.
