Central DeWitt's bid for state return comes up short in Solon

SOLON—For the second straight winter, Central DeWitt High School’s boys’ basketball team leaned on the same formula that carried it all season: relentless, physical defense. But in a 4A substate final that came down to the final horn, the fifth-seeded Panthers could only watch the clock strike zeroes as their hopes of a return to the state tournament slipped away.

The Panthers, who had frustrated opponents with their pressure all year, found themselves in another grinder Monday night. Every possession was contested, every passing lane crowded, yet the outcome remained in doubt until the last second. When the buzzer finally sounded, the scoreboard confirmed what the players already sensed—their season had ended one victory shy of Des Moines.

Central DeWitt exits with the knowledge that its defense again delivered on the biggest stage, but the points needed to match that intensity never quite materialized.
