Barcelona hand Andreas Christensen contract ultimatum

Barcelona have delivered a take-it-or-leave-it proposal to defender Andreas Christensen, setting a firm deadline for the Denmark international to accept a performance-heavy two-year deal or see the offer withdrawn, according to Marca.

Negotiations between the Catalan club and the 27-year-old’s representatives have stretched for several weeks, but sporting officials now insist they will not improve terms. The contract on the table would halve Christensen’s current base salary, with the remainder contingent on appearances. If he features in at least 50 percent of Barcelona’s competitive matches over the next two seasons, total earnings would rise by more than 50 percent. Conversely, should his playing time fall below 30 percent, the club retain the right to terminate the agreement early.

The ultimatum arrives while Christensen remains sidelined with a serious knee injury sustained earlier this campaign. His last outing came in December’s Copa del Rey tie, and medical staff have not established a definitive return date, casting doubt on whether he will feature again this season.

Barcelona’s hierarchy, mindful of the centre-back’s recent fitness record, structured the offer to protect against prolonged absences while still rewarding consistent availability. Performance-related clauses are tiered: appearing in 30-50 percent of fixtures triggers incremental bonuses, with further escalators beyond that threshold.

Club sources told Marca that officials “will not budge” from the current proposal and are prepared to walk away from negotiations unless Christensen provides an answer imminently. The defender now faces a pivotal decision: accept the incentivised deal and fight for minutes once fit, or risk losing a Camp Nou future altogether.
