MADRID—Atletico Madrid’s Director of Sport, Mateu Alemany, has definitively ended speculation linking French forward Antoine Griezmann with a switch to Major League Soccer, telling reporters on Tuesday that no move to Orlando City will materialize.
The 34-year-old, who turns 35 next month, had been the subject of mounting reports suggesting a lucrative offer from the Florida club was all but signed. French daily L’Equipe went as far as stating the deal had been “all-but agreed,” prompting questions over whether the veteran attacker would end his stay at the Metropolitano.
Speaking from the Spanish capital, Alemany dismissed the notion outright, closing the door on any impending transfer and ensuring Griezmann remains part of Diego Simeone’s squad for the foreseeable future.
Griezmann, whose experience and creativity have long been central to Atletico’s attacking plans, now looks set to continue his career in La Liga rather than embark on a new chapter in MLS.
