Arsenal leading race for Anthony Gordon as Liverpool and Manchester United circle

According to a report in The Sun by Charlie Wyett, the Gunners have edged ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United in the pursuit of Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, one of the division’s most explosive attacking options.

Gordon, who has featured both as a left winger and an emergency centre-forward, sits among the leading scorers in this season’s Champions League despite a relatively low profile of late. His blend of searing pace and direct running has kept him on the shortlist of every heavyweight club monitoring English talent, but it is Arsenal who currently hold the strongest hand.

Mikel Arteta’s side are open to further midfield reinforcements—Sandro Tonali has been scouted extensively—but sources indicate that a versatile forward is the immediate priority. Gabriel Martinelli’s form has fluctuated, while Gabriel Jesus is expected to depart once Viktor Gyokeres arrives as the club’s new striking option. Gordon’s ability to stretch defences wide or spearhead the line himself makes him an ideal fit for the system that has carried Arsenal to the summit.
